Darrell “Heavy” Stephens recently filed to run for the office of Clerk of the Spencer Circuit Court on the Republican ticket.
Darrell has been a Spencer County resident since 1967, except for a nine year period from 1987-1996 when he was employed by and attended Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Illinois and Armstrong State College in Savannah, Georgia. Stephens received an Associates Degree from Wabash Valley in 1989 and graduated cum laude from Armstrong State in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in liberal arts. He is a 1972 graduate of South Spencer High School.
Retired since 2016 after 18 years at Spencer Industries, Inc. in Dale, where he retired as the shipping manager, Stephens has worked part-time for the City of Rockport Street Department for the past three years.
Stephens previousy held elected office as a member of the Luce Township Trustee advisory board and also served as the superintendent of the Spencer County Highway Department in the 1980’s.
A 28-year member of the staff of the Rockport American Legion baseball program Darrell is active in historical research of Spencer County, especially in the area of sports and high schools prior to consolidation.
